A Cruel Reminder Of Our Past

Our faces can cause us so much grief at times. If we're not dealing with a fat zit, we're probably grappling with a cold sore. Why can't life be simpler? You know, where we all share a utopia of perfect beauty and riches. Okay, that's clearly never going to happen. In the real world we deal with image issues and money problems galore. Although there are ways to deal with our cosmetic issues, redundant products and regimes can get rather irksome to say the least. Take acne for example. Please! This is probably the most common skin affliction known to man; oh, and women too of course. It seems like once we have it, it never lets us be. It's all about those teen years. Those awkward stages of puberty can wreak havoc on our once pristine complexions. While many of us ditch the burden of blemishes for the most part once we get up into our 20s, a few of us have to re-live the affliction each and every time we glance in the mirror. Are you struggling with acne scars? If the answer is yes, then you may need an acne scar treatment.

When did you get your first zit? You're probably thinking it was around 7th grade or so. Well, this is the reality for most of us; however, my wife never got a pimple until her late 20s. She actually thought she would never be burdened by zits. Sadly, it finally came in to haunt her. Although she does deal with an occasional blemish or two, it's nothing compared to what some folks go through. Are you one of those unlucky ones who had breakouts covering your back and face? That is never a pretty sight, and can have serious effects on your self-esteem. In addition, this level of acne can lead to scarring.

Microdermabrasion

This is where an acne scar treatment comes into play. It basically works to re-surface your skin, hence minimizing any scarred tissue. You want to get rid of that damaged layer on top, and reveal the new skin below. One famous acne scar treatment is microdermabrasion. This is relatively new procedure which removes only the top layers of damaged skin by sand blasting them with tiny crystals. The resurfaces the skin, promoting the formation of new smoother, clearer skin.

Microdermabrasion can be done at a spa or by a dermatologist or specialist. It usually costs about $75 to $100 per session and generally takes about ten sessions. The process is not painful. Your skin is a little red for a while after each treatment, but you can resume your normal routine as soon as you leave the doctor's office. It does work, so in my book it's worth the cost.

Women all over the world spend billions of dollars on skin care products every year, in an effort to keep their skin soft, smooth and lovely, even into their later years.

There are certainly no shortage of skin care products. Cosmetic companies now offer a host of skin creams, wrinkle reducing agents and under eye potions for that delicate skin around the eyes.

With all of these day creams, night creams, exfoliants and sunscreens, it can be quite confusing trying to figure out which products might be best for you. Such experimenting is a costly proposition and the results may be disappointing. Perhaps it's a good time to take a step back from these pricey products and try some natural skin care treatments, which have produced wonderful results over centuries of traditional use.

Natural Skin Care Treatments Start With Skin Cleansing

Our natural skin care treatment regimen begins with clean skin. No matter what your age, when you clean your skin, a natural glycerine soap is the least drying. It's hypo-allergenic and does an excellent job of cleaning the skin. Rinse your skin well to remove all traces of soap. Follow up with witch hazel lotion, applied with a cotton ball. This closes and tightens the pores in a manner similar to cosmetic toners. Witch hazel is available at any pharmacy and costs about $1.50 for a bottle that will last for months.

Time For A Natural Exfoliant

Next in our lineup of natural skin care treatments is a natural exfoliant, made with botanical extracts. These should be used once or twice a week, to remove dead skin cells. Your skin is a living organ which is continuously regenerating. Removing the buildup of dead skin allows nutrients and moisturizers to be absorbed into the new skin cells, producing a fresh, young and vibrant quality to your skin. The Freeman(R) company has an excellent and inexpensive line of these natural botanicals.

Next Step Is Moisturizing

Now, you're ready to moisturize. Sweet almond oil, avocado oil and jojoba oil will all do the job and are readily available at health food stores for just a few dollars. Young people may like sweet almond oil, which is not quite so heavy as the others. Older people, with dry skin can use avocado oil as a day cream and jojoba oil for night time. All of these are well absorbed, provide valuable nutrients and keep your skin soft and supple. Any of these oils may be used as an all over body treatment as well. With the exception of jojoba oil, keep your oils in the frig to prevent rancidity.

For little more than $10, you now have a complete natural skin care treatment program!

You'll want to keep in mind that nutrition is an important component of beautiful skin. Some of the vitamins and minerals which directly impact skin health include vitamins A, all of the B complexes, C and E. Zinc, copper and iron are trace minerals essential to healthy skin. Include plenty of fruits and vegetables in your diet, drink your 8 glasses of water daily and exercise regularly.

There you have the makings of a natural skin care treatment program that truly produces results you'll love!

Out of the 400 species of the Aloe family, Aloe Vera (meaning True Aloe) has been used for thousands of years and is still present in varieties of medicines today.

It is used predominantly as an herbal remedy for the skin, digestion, the reproductive system and detox. A gel or pulp can be extracted from the plants for many benefits, both externally and internally.

Primary Use Is For Skin

It is most commonly used to treat skin conditions by soothing the skin and easing pain and inflammation. It can even speed up the healing process of burns, eczema and other conditions. The plant’s gel can be rubbed to reduce redness after a couple of days. Rubbing the leaf over cuts in the skin can prevent infection and speed up the healing process by acting like a bandage. Because of its healing and moisturising benefits to the skin, it has been adopted by cosmetic companies and added in many products.

Aloe Vera Juice

The juice of Aloe Vera can be extracted by cutting the leaf, collecting the juice and then evaporating it. The juice has many benefits when drunk. This is partially due to the fact that it contains twelve vitamins (including A, B1, B6, B12, C and E), nineteen amino acids and over 20 minerals, which most of these are essential to the body. In Ayurveda, the Indian health practice, Aloe Vera is known as Kumari (‘the princess’) because of its positive effect on the menstrual cycle and female reproductive system. It is also known for its ability to clean the liver and protect the digestive system by reducing intestinal inflammation.

Overall, Aloe Vera can be used for cosmetics and healing the skin, or when consumed, as a potent cleansing and rejuvenating tonic that is very nutrient rich and beneficial to the body. It is made only from the unfiltered inner gel of the whole plant, not the outer rind, which means less processing and more active ingredients are retained.

Those who have ever been pregnant will tell you that pregnancy can do many strange things to the human body.

There are some things that women are prepared for, and there are also things that might come as a huge shock. There are books on the subject, and while most of them contain some of the same stuff, many have little tips that others do not. This means women might miss something they really should know. One thing many ask about is pregnancy skin care and what they can do to keep things under control.

Acne Flare Ups

A common problem that might arise when a women is pregnant is acne. This may be something they haven’t seen since they were teenagers, and they may not remember how to take care of it. Things get tricky in this regard to pregnancy skin care because hormones are out of control to an extent, and there are some products that cannot be used when a woman is expecting. If acne is out of control, a doctor would be the best person to ask about what would be safe and what should be avoided.

Dry Skin And Stretch Marks

Dry skin is another thing that expecting moms have to worry about. Stretch marks come along as well, though there are ways to keep them at bay, or at least lessen them somewhat. It is important that a woman pay attention to this problem. This type of pregnancy skin care should come in the form of a very good moisturizer and should be put all over the body with a concentration on the stomach. If the skin is moist, the stretch marks might not be as bad and the itching of dry skin can be avoided. A good cocoa butter lotion usually works rather well for this.

Foot Problems

Though many women don’t think about it, pregnancy skin care should extend to the feet as well. At some point, a woman many not be able to see her feet, but that does not mean she can’t take care of them. A great idea is a foot soak that has moisturizer in it. This is something that the husband can help with, and can also have many other great side effects. Women may have aching feet, and this will help sooth them along with keeping them feeling soft and smooth. For even more help, the dad to be could slather lotion on her feet and legs for her if he is willing.

Since pregnancy is a time when you need to be extra careful what you put in and on your body, my advice is to talk to a dermatologist or your OB/GYN and ask for advice. Odds are they'll be able to easily tell you what you can and can't do for any pregnancy skin problems you experience.

Acne Problems Make Teenagers' Lives Miserable

When I was thirteen years old, I had what could be described as “acne problems.” That's the understatement of the year! I was a “pizza face”, I looked like the surface of the moon.

felt insecure all the time about my appearance. I was practically afraid to leave the house.

Of course, feelings of insecurity are a common part of adolescence. It's a difficult period of one's life. The body is changing, different hormones are racing through the blood stream. Suddenly, the adult world, the real world, doesn't seem so far away. And of course, for the first time I was noticing girls, who were becoming women!

It was just that which made the acne problems so embarrassing. My friends, most of whom were also guys, didn't really care if I had acne or not. To them, all that mattered was that I still hung out to ride bikes and play video games and pickup football. But with the girls, it was another matter. It's just hard to feel confident at that age as it is, and even harder when you're not confident about your appearance.

At first, I used cleansers and exfoliants, but these only seemed to make the problem worse. I'd put on the cleanser and the skin would turn red and dry, and begin to peel. Now even the parts of my skin without acne looked puffy and irritated!

Mom Finally Took Me To See A Dermatologist

I begged my mom to take me to the doctor, but she insisted I was fine just the way I was. I sure didn't feel fine. Finally, she took me into the dermatologist. She barely looked at me, and handed me a prescription for my acne problem – a cream which I was supposed to put on my face. I took this to mean that it was a miracle cure-all, so effective in treating acne that it was obviously the right choice for everybody. And it did start working, almost immediately, but after a couple days, my skin problems were back, as bad as ever. I began to despair of ever finding a cure for my acne problem.

Nutrition's Role In Controlling Acne

The strange thing is that, in all this time, no one had ever told me about the roll of nutrition in both causing and preventing acne. Fortunately, I had a friend who's mother was a nutritionist. Almost overnight when she was thirteen, she developed terrible acne – even worse than mine. Then, a week later, as if by magic, it was almost completely gone. I asked her what was her secret, and she told me – it was as simple as avoiding greasy foods, and eating lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. I was skeptical at first, but I figured it was workth trying.

I eliminated all unhealthy foods from my diet. It took longer than I would have thought, but I stuck with it. Within a month, my acne problems were mere acne inconveniences. And a few weeks after that, they were gone. I don't know if this solution will work for everyone. Probably, for some people, even with a healthy diet the cleansers and medications are necessary. But if acne is making your life miserable, eating balanced, nutricious meals is certainly worth a try!

We all want to look attractive. I mean very attractive! Let's face it; no one wants to look just "okay" or ordinary. It's just not enough.

Humans' egos are too strong to settle for something so trite. No worries! It's not our fault we want to look our best at all times. But I will say that part of this process concerns our complexions. How is your face treating you now days? Is the surface of your skin clear, radiant and flawless? Or, do you grapple with daily breakouts, battle fine lines and wrinkles, and see a few age spots peeking though? Whatever you do, don't freak out and go into a frenzy. These afflictions can be remedied with the right skin care solutions. Maybe what you need can't be found at the local drugstore. It just may be time for dermatologist skin care products.

Dermatologists Produce Results

If you've ever visited a dermatologist, you've probably noticed that they can prescribe remedies. Many of these dermatologists' skin care solutions are superior to what you'll find behind a cosmetics counter in a department store. You see, dermatologists are all about results. Packaging is not an issue. Big cosmetic brands like Chanel, Lancome, and Este Lauder thrive off of fancy packaging. It often sells their products. But when we think of what really gets the job done, it always comes back to the professionals. Dermatologists are the real pros in this industry. Not the heavily made-up ladies at the cosmetic counters.

Here's the deal; if you're suffering with a particular skin condition or simply wanting a little something to help battle time, you need to visit a dermatologist. They can provide answers to your concerns, as well as offer you dermatologist skin care solutions that can't be found anywhere else. My wife attained the best face scrub she's ever encountered from her dermatologist. She claims it's a huge step above the drugstore brands and stuff you find in department stores. Especially for those who suffer with acne breakouts; you need to see a professional ASAP. Only he she can prescribe you the right dermatologist skin care acne products to kick it to the curb. Help your face look the best it can!

Plenty Of Skin Care Options Available

In a quest for more beautiful skin, both men and women have a lot of choices. There are so many products on the shelves that you could spend a week standing in a store studying them.

Most of us don’t have that kind of time, so we have to guess, and even rely on what the advertisements tell us. Unfortunately, advertisements are meant to get you to buy, and it’s not uncommon for the truth to be stretched a bit, or even to be completely overlooked. When you want to find all natural skin care, things can get really tricky.

"Natural" Can Be A Relative Term

Natural means different things to different people. This word really don’t mean much. There are some terms that are regulated, and you can’t use that word without having some sort of way to back it up. The word ‘natural’ is not one of those words. So when you read that something is an all natural skin care product, you really don’t know what they mean by that. In fact, unless you know what you are doing, you aren’t going to know one product from another because many things that are labeled all natural skin care simply don’t pass the test.

Aloe Vera Is Truly Natural

Before you go to the store in search of your all natural skin care items, there are a few things that you can do. You should sit down and do some research on what natural ingredients might really be. Aloe is something you might be familiar with, and you already know that is something that comes directly from a plant and does not need to be altered to help the skin. You can put straight aloe on a sunburn and feel immediate relief. You want to research all of the other items that appear in all natural skin care items to see if the rest of them are as pure.

Do Research On Your Options

Once you have a list of what is truly natural and what is not, you can then begin to compare products that make the claim that they are all natural skin care items. You should keep in mind that natural does not always mean safe. If you have sensitive skin, and you think all natural products will help, you might be surprised to find that this is not the answer. Some natural items can be very rough on the skin. Find products with ingredients you feel comfortable and buy those first. See what works and ditch the rest.

Keeping Father Time At Bay

Don't you just love Father Time? I mean come on, this dreaded visitor to our lives changes so many things. We go from day to night, infant to toddler, child to adult, and time flies by so quickly.

Suddenly we're pushing 40, and having a hard time grasping where the years went. That's life! It moves so quickly, and if you don't stop and look around once in a while, you might miss it. Okay, so I stole that line, but it's true nevertheless. Speaking of time, one of the major concerns regarding this invisible entity is beauty. We all know that beauty fades as time progresses forward. Well, physical beauty at least. Although many of us would like to avoid this development, we simply can't. However, these days many individuals are doing everything in their power to fight Father Time. With a slew of aging skin care products, women and men around the globe are battling that old devil!

The Media Loves Beautiful People

When it comes to aging skin care, the media is constantly being stormed with new breakthroughs and products. The funny thing is that it's the media's fault in the first place. How often do you see some girl on TV in her teens or twenties telling you how to look young? Well of course they look young; they are! No one wants to listen to a bunch of kids lecture about wrinkles. That's why the recent Dove advertising campaign resonates so well with me. Instead of using models in their advertising, they use real people. People like you and me. Sadly, our society has simply deemed youth beautiful. So if you're lacking it, then you better fight to get it back. While getting it back certainly does seem to be an option nowadays with all the cosmetic surgery, preventing it or slowing down the aging process sounds much more desirable. What aging skin care products do you use daily? Now, I know you must have a few on your bathroom counter or vanity. This is nothing to be ashamed of. It's actually a great route to remaining youthful looking. Let's face it; no one wants wrinkles.

Many Aging Skin Care Products Available

One thing is for certain these days; our cosmetic companies provide us with a vast selection of aging skin care products and treatments. Therefore, everyone should have no problem finding something that suits them. If you are having trouble finding the right aging skin care regimen, then it may be wise to consult your local cosmetic counter for guidance. Let one of the pros give you a hand in discovering the perfect aging skin care for your face. Stop fretting about those darn wrinkles and fight them with quality aging skin care products.

Start With An Acne Diet

If you have acne, I don't have to tell you how traumatizing it can be. This affliction can be a rather stressful one if left untreated.

Our appearance, as we all know, can have such a important effect on our confidence, or lack there of. How is your skin looking these days? It's certainly no rarity to be tormented by acne, but you should never let this skin disorder get the best of you. It's time to stand up tall, and demand your life back. With all the resources at our disposal, there's no reason why we can't strive to be acne free. While proper skin care and reliable treatments are crucial in getting rid of blemishes, many people overlook the other things. It's not just about your outside. We have to consider what goes on inside us as well. This brings me to the topic of acne diets. What do you eat?

You may or may not have come across the subject of acne diets. This pertains to what you consume and how it affects your skin. I recently was sitting in the doctor's office with my wife. She was there for a sore back. I had severely chapped lips at the time and asked her if she had some lip balm in her purse. The doctor looked at me with a smirk and said, "You know, the condition of your lips actually relates to your diet." She informed me that consuming the proper nutrients and fluids on a regular basis would prevent my lips from being chapped. This puzzled me. However, these days I have adopted a more nutritious diet and refrain from using lip balm. And Guess What? I never have chapped lips anymore. It's bizarre how some things work. This concept also applies to our skin. Did you know that the food you eat excretes back through your pores? Well, substances from them do anyway. This gives whole new meaning to the phrase, you are what you eat. This is why acne diets may be important for some individuals. Foods high in fat and grease are known for causing breakouts. I'm talking about fast foods, especially.

When it comes to acne diets, foods that are great for your skin include, fruits and vegetables, organic products, non-processed items, and of course water. I highly recommend that you give acne diets a shot if pimples are giving you trouble. This should certainly better your complexion if you stick to it. For more information on acne diets, you can simply hit the Internet.

We had such a good response to the recent post on Aloe Vera Juice, I decided to provide a little more background on its many uses.

Aloe is a genus of plants belonging to the Asphodelaceae family, and is related to onions and asparagus.

Aloe plants appear naturally in Africa, although many members of the genus are popular houseplants and can be found around the world. The most famous member of the genus is Aloe Vera, known for its medicinal uses and applications.

Aloe Vera Gel

Though there are several common medical uses for Aloe Vera, the most frequent use of the plant is in the form of a topical gel. Gels made from Aloe Vera are used to treat burns and minor scrapes. Aloe Vera benefits range from soothing inflammation, pain relief, and a reduction in the likelihood of infection. Studies have also shown that regular use of an Aloe Vera gel will actually speed the healing process in minor wounds, and even severe burns. It has been used in this capacity for hundreds of years. The thick leaves from Aloe plants can be snapped open, and the moist open ends of the Aloe leaf can be rubbed onto a burn or scrape directly. This is how my wife and I used it in Jamaica for my sunburn when we vacationed in Negril several years ago.

Many Uses

In industrialized areas, the moisture form the Aloe leaves are extracted and made into the popular gel most people are familiar with. In more recent years, it has become more popular than ever and has found its way into skin lotions, cosmetic products, shampoos, lip balms, soaps and sunscreens. Some Aloe Vera benefits include a strong moisturizing capacity, and its extract contains a number of vitamins and minerals that are believed to promote healthy skin. It is a very gentle substance in itself, so one of the benefits of Aloe Vera is that it can be used in sensitive areas, such as around the eyes.

Used Internally Also

Aloe plants, including Aloe Vera, have also found medicinal uses internally. Used in this way primarily as a laxative, the juice from aloe can be dried into a dark powder composed of yellowish granules that are quite bitter to taste. Internal use of Aloe is marketed as a treatment for coughs, ulcers, muscle pain, headaches, and even cancer and HIV. The only proven Aloe Vera benefit in internal use is the relief of constipation. Additionally, even in this use, internal use of the plant has a number of side effects, can cause nausea, and should not be taken by women who may be pregnant.

There is a lot of hype and mystery surrounding the Aloe genus, especially its most popular member Aloe Vera. Clearly, many Aloe Vera benefits are proven, especially the ones involved in external use and in skin care. There is even an Aloe Vera treatment for acne. Its benefits for internal use are somewhat dubious, however.
