It is very hard to find an effective cure to treat cystic acne. Cystic acne is an advanced form of acne, hence early treatment of your skin condition is a must. The pimples in this case will give you so much pain as the swelling is bacteria-laden mixed with dead skin cells and white blood cells. Cystic acne affects not only the superficial skin but attacks the tissues within. This could lead to permanent damage to your skin in the form of scars. Acne is bad enough but carrying the scars that go with can really hurt your confidence in yourself. There are numerous suggested cures to treat cystic acne although you ought not to wait for cysts to show before becoming concerned with the pimples on your face.

You need to identify the level of your acne condition so that the appropriate remedy could be resorted. There are three identified stages of acne with the corresponding names for each form. Acne during the initial stage appears in the form of blackheads and whiteheads. It then graduates to what you refer to a pimples or zits. The final stage with the severest form is the cysts or nodules. This is the reason why you need to find a way to treat cystic acne.

According to some health experts, one highly advised medication on treating cystic acne is via oral antibiotics. Antibiotics attack the bacteria that are present in the cysts to reduce the inflammation within. You should purchase medicines such as doxycycline or tetracycline capsules or pills, among others.

Female contraceptives taken orally are likewise claimed to be helpful on treating cystic acne. The production of a high level of sebum triggers acne thus this over release of sebaceous fluids needs to be controlled by the contraceptives. The downside is that this treatment may be taken only when approved and under the supervision of your doctor.

A third option would be corticosteroid injections. The cysts are injected with steroids that are targeted to diminish the swelling after a few days. A skilled medical practitioner should be the one to perform this method as this is a delicate procedure. One of the benefits of this particular process to treat cystic acne is preventing the scarring as the cysts or nodules should dry up and disappear naturally.

The remedies above were given by a salesman of cosmetics and vitamins supplements. He was once a consultant of teeth whitening as well. For more information on remedies to treat cystic acne, you can surf the Internet.

Since we're approaching the holiday season and fall is in its last lap, I wanted to follow up on the subject of allergies and allergic reactions. This is a period of the year when allergies here in the Midwest are high. And I want to tell you a story that will amaze you.

As I said in an earlier post, my wife, our daughter, and I each have allergies.

Our symptoms to our allergic reactions are similar to a cold or flu. Other people who might be allergic to shell fish or peanuts or bees, can have violent, even life-hreatening allergic reactions. Their faces swell up, they break out in hives, their throat might swell up and close off their air supply--potentially life-threatening reactions. These people probably have been told by a doctor about their allergies and are careful to avoid their problem causing stimulus.

Some allergic reactions fade over time

One problem that complicates this allergic reaction situation is that people's allergies change over their lifetime. You might be allergic to shell fish when you're a kid, but as you grow older, that allergy diminishes and you might acquire another allergy to something different! It makes dealing with allergies very difficult.

The Need To Consult A Specialist

The only way to really pinpoint the cause of what's making you feel lousy is to go to a specialist and take some tests to find out what you're allergic to so you'll know what to avoid and how to treat your allergic reaction. A dermatologist or an ears nose and throat specialist could perform the tests. Or log on to the Internet to find out more about the subject.

My Wife's Amazing Story

But I want to tell you this anecdote to make my point: my wife has some severe allergies--dairy products, red meat and others. But this is the most bizarre one. She was really suffering from something new several years ago. It was in November. The weather was getting colder, and she had what she thought it was the flu. She has Meunire's disease which is an inner ear disorder that is affected by her allergies and her Meunire's symtoms were acting up. So she went to her doctor and he thought her recent symptoms was an allergic reaction to something new. So she took some tests--relatively simple ones administered in the doctor's office. It took about a week for the lab results to get back, and she went back find out the results. Turns out she was allergic to cockroaches. Cockroaches! But she hadn't even seen a cockroach in years, so how could it be?

Well, she works for a big ad agency in Chicago in a downtown high rise. Cockroaches are just about anywhere there's food, and there were several restaurants in the building. Cockroaches infiltrated the building, got into the ventilation shafts, died, their bodies decayed and turned into dust. When the heating system cranked up in November, the cockroach dust became airborne and everybody in the building inhaled it! Is that disgusting or what?! I'm not making that up, I swear! So the doctor gave her some medication for her allergic reaction to cockroach dust and the problem was solved.

My point is she never would have know what was causing her allergic reaction unless she had seen her doctor and had the tests done. You might think you're allergic to pet dander when it's actually dust mites or something else. To relieve your allergic reactions, you must first know what's causing them.

I've had high blood pressure for twenty years, but I've finally got it under control. As I've mentioned before, the causes are varied and multiple, and each person has a different mix of causes, so controlling it, even with medication, is a challenge.

medication is better now than before, but your goal should be to get your blood pressure to a normal level and not have to use any medication at all. It can be done!

The Silent Killer

High blood pressure is a common condition in today's society. There are many factors which contribute, including stress, poor dietary habits, excess weight, lack of exercise and a lack of good circulation. While your doctor can prescribe medications to reduce your high blood pressure, it's always a good idea to try lowering high blood pressure naturally, unless your blood pressure is dangerously high. If you must take a prescription medication, pass this information by your doctor to see if you can concurrently use some of these solutions as well. A naturopathic physician can readily advise you on any conflicts between herbal supplements and pharmaceuticals.

Garlic Has Medical Powers

Many studies have shown that using garlic alone can produce significant results, on a par with pharmaceutical medications, in the same amount of time! Garlic also addresses high cholesterol issues as well. Let's take a look at some of the ways of lowering high blood pressure naturally, strictly through herbal supplements, improvements in your diet and a few simple lifestyle changes.

Stress Is Also A Factor

Your doctor will probably advise you that reducing stress is an essential component of lowering high blood pressure naturally, regardless of your medication needs. However, doctors are often so busy, they don't spend much time getting into the details of accomplishing this objective. Something as simple as reading a book for an hour or so each day can help you reduce high blood pressure, naturally. Meditation, biofeedback, prayer or simply listening to music are other easy and effective techniques.

Most highly stressed people neglect their own needs for relaxation. This becomes kind of a catch-22 situation. There's always something that must be done and the type A personality just can't stop driving themselves. If this describes you, it's important to realize that if you don't start making time for yourself, you can drive yourself right into a heart attack! So it's essential that you force yourself to kick back every day, for at least one hour.

Where Do We Stand On The December Issue?!!

I can attest to this personally. For twenty-five years I was an advertising salesman for several national magazines. It would be an understatement to say it was a high-pressure business, and, not surprisingly, this is when my high blood pressure problems began. Consider this scenario. You had an annual page quota. And you sold twelve monthly issues per year. Every month was the same selling situation. You had 30 days to sell pages into each issue. Once the issue closed, it was history. If an advertiser was planning to run in the December issue, but there was a delay of some type, if he missed the closing date, the December issue was gone. You might get him to run in the following January or February, but his planned ad for December was gone forever. And you missed your annual quota by one page! It was a tough business. And all this time you had a boss that was putting pressure on you to close the deal and get that December page. No quota, no bonus. Reminds me of David Mamet's movie, Glengarry Glen Ross.(A must see movie for anyone in sales.)

We'll continue this in a future post

Anxiety And/Or Depression Can Be Treated Successfully

Anxiety and depression are by far the two most common mental illnesses diagnosed in the United States, and probably the world, although there haven’t been studies done to confirm it.

They both can be debilitating in their effects, and are very difficult disorders to live with. Unfortunately, most people with anxiety and depression do just that; live with it. Most studies done on the diseases show that more than 75% of people who are clinically depressed go without treatment, as well as over 90% of people with anxiety disorders.

This is especially disturbing, since both anxiety and depression are the most treatable forms of mental illnesses there are. There are a variety of medications that are available today to treat both anxiety and depression, and there are a lot of helpful resources out there that can help find the road to recovery from your symptoms.

Anxiety And Depression Related

The two diseases are not fully understood, but are definitely related in some key ways. People suffering from anxiety disorders are many times more likely to also suffer from depression than someone without an anxiety condition. The same is true with people suffering from depression, in that they are more likely to also have an anxiety disorder. It is not surprising then that many of the anxiety and depression treatments are similar or even exactly the same.

Medication Treatments Work But Are Risky

Traditionally, anxiety disorders have been treated with the use of sedatives. The first and most famous sedative used to treat anxiety is alcohol. Due to its toxic effects and highly addictive nature, barbiturates quickly replaced alcohol as a treatment for anxiety after their introduction to the medical world in 1912. Of course, it was soon realized that barbiturates suffer from many of the same drawbacks as alcohol, and today benzodiazapines have all but completely replaced barbiturates in anxiety treatment.

While benzodiazapines are effective in treating anxiety, they too are highly addictive chemicals, and can actually make the symptoms of depression worse. So if you are worried about addiction, or are suffering from both anxiety and depression, you should avoid using sedatives of any kind to treat your symptoms.

There are likewise some drugs that are good for treating certain forms of depression, but will actually worsen an anxiety disorder. Norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake inhibitors, such as Wellbutrin, have been shown effective in the treatment of depression, but are not recommended if you also suffer from anxiety.

Consider Natural Remedies And Therapy As An Alternative

The SSRIs, or selective serotonin reuptape inhibitors, are medications that are effective in treating both anxiety and depression. Support groups, therapy, counseling, exercise, and a healthy diet, are all non-pharmaceutical ways of treating both disorders. If you suspect that you suffer from anxiety and depression, or either one, you should see a doctor. Both disorders are highly treatable, but will likely only get worse without taking steps to recover.

The "Silent Killer"

I discovered I had high blood pressure one day when I was thirty seven years old and went to donate blood to the local blood-drive van parked in front of my office.

nurse asked me a few questions, then asked me to roll up my sleeve and she took me blood pressure. She shook her head and tried it again. Then a third time. Finally, she said,"We can't take your blood because your blood pressure is too high. I suggest you see your physician soon." Well, that shook me up a little. I had always been in perfect health. But I had to admit my weight was creeping up on me, but otherwise, I was in great shape. Wrong!

I went to see a doctor the next week and he took my blood pressure, and sure enough, it was high. Not borderline, but high. It was 150 over 90. I learned that the 150, or systolic pressure, is the pressure when your heart pumps. The lower, or diastolic pressure, is the pressure when your heart is between beats. The diastolic is more important because if your pressure is high when your heart is between beats, it's even higher when it does pump. The thing was--I felt great. No symptoms whatsoever.

Hypertension Is Bad News

One of the most dangerous things about high blood pressure, or hypertension, is that there are often few or no perceptible symptoms of it. It is difficult to know that you have it, if not impossible, unless you make regular routine visits to the doctor. These are important, because hypertension can lead to all types of terrible complications. It can worsen diabetes sometimes, but even more commonly, can put you at risk of heart disease or stroke. My grandfather was in denial about his high blood pressure for years before it finally caught up to him, causing him to have a heart attack. This is why you need to get your medical checkup. Because, even though it is dangerous, high blood pressure causes are easily treated.

Too Much Salt

One of the most common of high blood pressure causes is excessive salt consumption. According to many experts, taking in too much salt is common among Americans. It is estimated that we consume 10 to 15 times more salt than we need. Although this is only one of the high blood pressure causes for certain salt sensitive people, it can't hurt to decrease your salt consumption, and may help prevent your risk of heart attack.

Lose Weight and Exercise!

Even more common among high blood pressure causes is obesity. Obesity causes hypertension because it puts a strain on your circulatory system. This means that your heart has to work harder to pump blood, resulting in higher pressure in your veins and arteries. Along with obesity, another of the high blood pressure causes is lack of exercise. This allows your heart to atrophy, and so it needs to pump harder to circulate your blood. By using exercise to lose weight, you can treat both of these high blood pressure causes at once.

Sometimes It's Genetic

Some high blood pressure causes are not so easily treatable. For example, it appears that there is a genetic component, making some people simply more prone to high blood pressure. Along with this, there is a process called arteriosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries, which occurs with age. Diabetes, which can be treated through diet and exercise, but not necessarily completely eliminated, is another one of the high blood pressure causes which can't completely be ameliorated through conscientious treatment. But in spite of all of this, the facts remain that you can reduce your chance of high blood pressure through seeing getting your checkup, exercising, and eating right. You owe it to yourself.

I've battled high blood pressure for twenty years. It was a difficult process as the various medications the doctor prescribed were just okay and didn't eliminate it. But I'm happy to say that now my blood pressure is normal. I still take medication for it but at a much-reduced dosage. I'll talk more about what I learned about dealing with hypertension in future posts. I'll give you a hint: You really have to change your lifestyle--not dramatically or painfully, but you will have to make some changes. If you do, you'll add twenty years to your life
