Work Out At Home Vs. Gym Membership?
Paying Money For A Gym Membership Forces You Use It
Before I got my gym membership, my workout regimen was not really very successful. Even though I set up a gym in the basement, I would spend very little time working out on it.
I had lots of fitness equipment, but I just couldn't get myself motivated. The gym equipment basically sat there and gathered dust. There was no one around to encourage me, and I could always put it off until later. I was great at procrastinating. I'd sit around in my gym pants, pretending that I was about to work out, while never really doing it.For me, and I suspect for a lot of others, owning some gym equipment doesn't guaranteed you'll use it.
Many More Options
So I bit the bullet and decided to purchase a gym membership. It has really done wonders for me. I can't tell you how much healthier, more productive, or more active I have been since I started working out at the gym. It really is like night and day. The great thing about gym memberships is that they give you so many options. If you buy your own gym equipment, you are constrained to a few sets of exercises. With a membership, however, you can do basically any exercise you want.
Exercise Classes
In addition to that, you can also take classes. Exercise classes are a great thing if you ask me. It is much easier to just follow instructions from an exercise teacher who wants to push you than to motivate yourself to really get a killer workout. All you have to do is motivate yourself to come to class every week. The fitness instructor makes sure that you do the rest.
A Financial Commitment
Of course, buying the right gym membership can be a little tricky. Nowadays, a lot of gym memberships wants you to join for months, or even years at a time. This can be worth it, because it saves you a lot of money to get a gym membership. On the other hand, there is a downside to it as well. If you decide that you want to use a different gym, or perhaps move, you still have to keep paying for that gym membership! Be careful before you get into any kind of contract. You never know whether or not you are going to regret it in the long run. You should ask the membership department when you are thinking of joining if they offer a trial membership so you can try it on for size before you put down the yearly fee.
A Social Outlet
Also consider that a lot of health clubs are great places to make new friends. Some of the more deluxe clubs really try to priovide social networking events and parties. But these are the more expensive "gymnasiums." If all you want from a an exercise club is a place to work out that isn't too crowded and is convenient to your home or office, many storefronts that used to house retail shops or stores that have gone out of business because a new Walmart opned in town have re-invented themselves as the neighborhood gym. And they are usually pretty inexpensive. And most of them have enough different types of gym equipment to give you several different workout sessions per visit. But the bigger health clubs have all the classes, gym fitness equipment, and personal trainers available, so either way it makes a lot of sense to join a gym. Whichever type you choose, the odds are better that you'll stick to a regimen if you join a gym or club.
