It is very hard to find an effective cure to treat cystic acne. Cystic acne is an advanced form of acne, hence early treatment of your skin condition is a must. The pimples in this case will give you so much pain as the swelling is bacteria-laden mixed with dead skin cells and white blood cells. Cystic acne affects not only the superficial skin but attacks the tissues within. This could lead to permanent damage to your skin in the form of scars. Acne is bad enough but carrying the scars that go with can really hurt your confidence in yourself. There are numerous suggested cures to treat cystic acne although you ought not to wait for cysts to show before becoming concerned with the pimples on your face.

You need to identify the level of your acne condition so that the appropriate remedy could be resorted. There are three identified stages of acne with the corresponding names for each form. Acne during the initial stage appears in the form of blackheads and whiteheads. It then graduates to what you refer to a pimples or zits. The final stage with the severest form is the cysts or nodules. This is the reason why you need to find a way to treat cystic acne.

According to some health experts, one highly advised medication on treating cystic acne is via oral antibiotics. Antibiotics attack the bacteria that are present in the cysts to reduce the inflammation within. You should purchase medicines such as doxycycline or tetracycline capsules or pills, among others.

Female contraceptives taken orally are likewise claimed to be helpful on treating cystic acne. The production of a high level of sebum triggers acne thus this over release of sebaceous fluids needs to be controlled by the contraceptives. The downside is that this treatment may be taken only when approved and under the supervision of your doctor.

A third option would be corticosteroid injections. The cysts are injected with steroids that are targeted to diminish the swelling after a few days. A skilled medical practitioner should be the one to perform this method as this is a delicate procedure. One of the benefits of this particular process to treat cystic acne is preventing the scarring as the cysts or nodules should dry up and disappear naturally.

The remedies above were given by a salesman of cosmetics and vitamins supplements. He was once a consultant of teeth whitening as well. For more information on remedies to treat cystic acne, you can surf the Internet.

A Cruel Reminder Of Our Past

Our faces can cause us so much grief at times. If we're not dealing with a fat zit, we're probably grappling with a cold sore. Why can't life be simpler? You know, where we all share a utopia of perfect beauty and riches. Okay, that's clearly never going to happen. In the real world we deal with image issues and money problems galore. Although there are ways to deal with our cosmetic issues, redundant products and regimes can get rather irksome to say the least. Take acne for example. Please! This is probably the most common skin affliction known to man; oh, and women too of course. It seems like once we have it, it never lets us be. It's all about those teen years. Those awkward stages of puberty can wreak havoc on our once pristine complexions. While many of us ditch the burden of blemishes for the most part once we get up into our 20s, a few of us have to re-live the affliction each and every time we glance in the mirror. Are you struggling with acne scars? If the answer is yes, then you may need an acne scar treatment.

When did you get your first zit? You're probably thinking it was around 7th grade or so. Well, this is the reality for most of us; however, my wife never got a pimple until her late 20s. She actually thought she would never be burdened by zits. Sadly, it finally came in to haunt her. Although she does deal with an occasional blemish or two, it's nothing compared to what some folks go through. Are you one of those unlucky ones who had breakouts covering your back and face? That is never a pretty sight, and can have serious effects on your self-esteem. In addition, this level of acne can lead to scarring.

Microdermabrasion

This is where an acne scar treatment comes into play. It basically works to re-surface your skin, hence minimizing any scarred tissue. You want to get rid of that damaged layer on top, and reveal the new skin below. One famous acne scar treatment is microdermabrasion. This is relatively new procedure which removes only the top layers of damaged skin by sand blasting them with tiny crystals. The resurfaces the skin, promoting the formation of new smoother, clearer skin.

Microdermabrasion can be done at a spa or by a dermatologist or specialist. It usually costs about $75 to $100 per session and generally takes about ten sessions. The process is not painful. Your skin is a little red for a while after each treatment, but you can resume your normal routine as soon as you leave the doctor's office. It does work, so in my book it's worth the cost.

Searching For The Right Acne Treatment Solution For You

There are myriads of acne alternative treatments being sold today, all purport to clear up your skin pronto.

Many websites a full of pages of testimonials from people who have used the treatments and been cured. And some of them have been. The trouble is that an acne alternative that works for one doesn't work for another. No matter what the claims of the various people who sell skin care products, facials, and nutritional regimens to clear up your skin, nobody knows until a particular treatment is tried on an individual whether it's going to do much good. Unfortunately, that means for most of us, it's hit or miss.

Once you've gotten fed up with the antibiotics, topical treatments and Accutane offered by your dermatologist, where do you begin? Or, maybe you never wanted to go that route in the first place. Whatever drove you to seek a nontraditional acne alternative, you have to begin somewhere.

Do Your Homework

First, consult widely. Chances are very good that you know several people who have had acne and cleared it up or who have it now and are in the process of clearing it up. Learn from their experience. Take notes. Then try some of the things that have worked for them. Hope for the best, but realize that it might take some time before you hit on the combination of products, treatments and lifestyle changes that will help you the most.

Another thing is that some acne alternative products containing the same basic ingredients vary greatly in price. Learn what the active ingredients are in products and try the less expensive versions of them before you pay for the more costly ones.

Natural Treatments Treat The Causes Of Acne

It's also a great idea to seek the help of professionals. Naturopaths have regiments of vitamins, herbs and gentle cleansers that can work wonders. The very expensive prescription medicine Accutane is actually derived from plain old Vitamin A, and under a naturopath's care, you can take high doses of Vitamin A for predetermined periods, along with other vitamins and herbs and potentially clear up your skin without the side effects of Accutane, which, if you are female, can include birth defects in your children should become pregnant while taking the drug.

Light Therapy

A promising acne alternative is light therapy. For many, acne is cleared up with the application of red and blue ultraviolet light for a set amount of time each day. It's possible to purchase a device online that safely emits this type of light. They cost in the range of $200. This is a less expensive alternative to try before going to an esthetician who has similar, more powerful equipment.

One of the best acne treatment programs I've come across is called Clearpores. It's a multifaceted program that not only provides some short-term improvement but it also guarantees your acne will be cleared up for good within six months or your money back. It is the highest rated acne treatment program I could find. You can check it out for yourself at. Click Clearpores to go to its site. Let me know what you think of it.

Many older people remember the days when blemishes and pimples were significant sources of anxiety. One of the benefits of getting older is losing the worry of waking up with a new pimple or waking up with a cluster of them.

is usually associated with adolescence. Puberty is a time of hormonal disarray and epidermal awakenings. However, many adults are faced with the adolescent curse. In order for mature individuals to treat breakouts, it is necessary to explore the causes of adult acne.

Nothing To Do With Face Cleansing

There are a few things to consider when breakouts are no longer part of a rite of passage. The causes of adult acne do not necessarily revolve around a person’s facial cleaning habits. Just because you cleanse your face does not mean that you will be blemish-free. The breakouts are usually a message that causes for adult acne are working internally. You internal workings are literally worn on your face.

Hormonal Imbalance

As mature people, our hormones are supposed to be in check but hormonal imbalances are one of the major causes of adult acne. Usually the blemishes appear in women during pregnancy or during a monthly cycle. Although the pimples typically clear up without treatment, it is a good idea to consult with your doctor about checking for hormonal imbalances that may be a cause for adult acne.

One way to tell if hormones are at play is to consider other signs of an imbalance. For example, hormones may factor in as causes for adult acne if they appear along with a severe case of premenstrual syndrome. There is no such thing as a case of PMS that is not severe, at least according to my wife. You may be able to address both the PMS problems and the blemish problems at once. This could lead to a very happy, pimple-free home.
Men Have Hormonal Imbalances As Well
Men also show signs that there is a chemical imbalance that needs to be considered in the search for the causes of adult acne. Hair loss is tell-tale sign that significant changes are occurring in a man’s system. Women are not exempt from the worries of hair loss, either. If you are having both hair loss and breakouts, you may want to consult with a doctor who can tell you if there is a connection.

Look At Your Diet

Other things that may factor in to a less than perfect complexion include a proper diet and this includes water intake. Some argue that diet is not directly connected to breakouts, but I am convinced that it is one of the causes of adult acne. My face breaks out if I eat junk food and if I do not drink enough water. This usually occurs over a course of a few days and in combination. The latter is more significant as one of the causes of adult acne because I have gotten away with snacking on junk food without breakouts if I drank enough water.

Keeping track of your mood and your diet can help you discover the causes of adult acne. Sometimes we need to listen to our bodies. It may take a little time and effort, but you may be surprised that the causes of adult acne are really manageable.

Those who have ever been pregnant will tell you that pregnancy can do many strange things to the human body.

There are some things that women are prepared for, and there are also things that might come as a huge shock. There are books on the subject, and while most of them contain some of the same stuff, many have little tips that others do not. This means women might miss something they really should know. One thing many ask about is pregnancy skin care and what they can do to keep things under control.

Acne Flare Ups

A common problem that might arise when a women is pregnant is acne. This may be something they haven’t seen since they were teenagers, and they may not remember how to take care of it. Things get tricky in this regard to pregnancy skin care because hormones are out of control to an extent, and there are some products that cannot be used when a woman is expecting. If acne is out of control, a doctor would be the best person to ask about what would be safe and what should be avoided.

Dry Skin And Stretch Marks

Dry skin is another thing that expecting moms have to worry about. Stretch marks come along as well, though there are ways to keep them at bay, or at least lessen them somewhat. It is important that a woman pay attention to this problem. This type of pregnancy skin care should come in the form of a very good moisturizer and should be put all over the body with a concentration on the stomach. If the skin is moist, the stretch marks might not be as bad and the itching of dry skin can be avoided. A good cocoa butter lotion usually works rather well for this.

Foot Problems

Though many women don’t think about it, pregnancy skin care should extend to the feet as well. At some point, a woman many not be able to see her feet, but that does not mean she can’t take care of them. A great idea is a foot soak that has moisturizer in it. This is something that the husband can help with, and can also have many other great side effects. Women may have aching feet, and this will help sooth them along with keeping them feeling soft and smooth. For even more help, the dad to be could slather lotion on her feet and legs for her if he is willing.

Since pregnancy is a time when you need to be extra careful what you put in and on your body, my advice is to talk to a dermatologist or your OB/GYN and ask for advice. Odds are they'll be able to easily tell you what you can and can't do for any pregnancy skin problems you experience.

Acne Problems Make Teenagers' Lives Miserable

When I was thirteen years old, I had what could be described as “acne problems.” That's the understatement of the year! I was a “pizza face”, I looked like the surface of the moon.

felt insecure all the time about my appearance. I was practically afraid to leave the house.

Of course, feelings of insecurity are a common part of adolescence. It's a difficult period of one's life. The body is changing, different hormones are racing through the blood stream. Suddenly, the adult world, the real world, doesn't seem so far away. And of course, for the first time I was noticing girls, who were becoming women!

It was just that which made the acne problems so embarrassing. My friends, most of whom were also guys, didn't really care if I had acne or not. To them, all that mattered was that I still hung out to ride bikes and play video games and pickup football. But with the girls, it was another matter. It's just hard to feel confident at that age as it is, and even harder when you're not confident about your appearance.

At first, I used cleansers and exfoliants, but these only seemed to make the problem worse. I'd put on the cleanser and the skin would turn red and dry, and begin to peel. Now even the parts of my skin without acne looked puffy and irritated!

Mom Finally Took Me To See A Dermatologist

I begged my mom to take me to the doctor, but she insisted I was fine just the way I was. I sure didn't feel fine. Finally, she took me into the dermatologist. She barely looked at me, and handed me a prescription for my acne problem – a cream which I was supposed to put on my face. I took this to mean that it was a miracle cure-all, so effective in treating acne that it was obviously the right choice for everybody. And it did start working, almost immediately, but after a couple days, my skin problems were back, as bad as ever. I began to despair of ever finding a cure for my acne problem.

Nutrition's Role In Controlling Acne

The strange thing is that, in all this time, no one had ever told me about the roll of nutrition in both causing and preventing acne. Fortunately, I had a friend who's mother was a nutritionist. Almost overnight when she was thirteen, she developed terrible acne – even worse than mine. Then, a week later, as if by magic, it was almost completely gone. I asked her what was her secret, and she told me – it was as simple as avoiding greasy foods, and eating lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. I was skeptical at first, but I figured it was workth trying.

I eliminated all unhealthy foods from my diet. It took longer than I would have thought, but I stuck with it. Within a month, my acne problems were mere acne inconveniences. And a few weeks after that, they were gone. I don't know if this solution will work for everyone. Probably, for some people, even with a healthy diet the cleansers and medications are necessary. But if acne is making your life miserable, eating balanced, nutricious meals is certainly worth a try!

Those Wonderful Teenage Years

When I was younger, more specifically a teenager, I was known as The Acne King.

And not without reason! With a visage that had scores of both black heads and white heads, I was a walking talking running advertisement for blemish acne and teenage pimples. If the scorn of my peers (especially the girls) was one thing, the impossibility of removing the ugly acne I had was another thing altogether.

Myths About Acne Causes

The general myths about acne didn’t help. My family members firmly believed that acne was a result of eating junk food. While it was true that I enjoyed the frequent dose of junk food that the neighborhood fast food joints dished out, I wasn’t too sure that eating out was the cause of my acne. I mean, a number of my friends ate out with me, and what’s more, ate junk food even more frequently than I did. But they hardly had any acne. Something had to be wrong with the popular belief right? I had seen the myth being busted right before my eyes. Another associated myth was about chocolate. And since I loved chocolate in any form or shape, I would have found giving it up, even at the risk of remaining The Acne King, an abhorrent idea. But having read up and followed news and medical reports on the subject, I discovered to my relief that chocolate consumption had nothing whatsoever to do with acne.

The Blackhead Jungle

So I resorted to searching for the best acne treatment. I tried acne lotion, read articles on how to clear up my acne. I became obsessed with removing blackheads and spent many hours in the bathroom trying to get rid of my blackheads. My friends thought it was pretty funny, too. They weren't any help at all. Most of my friends, hinted with obvious sarcasm, that my acne advertisement face was a result of my frequent and constant masturbation, which they concluded was what I was really doing when I was removing my blackheads in my bathroom. For a while, I believed this. Hey! What hot-blooded, teenage male doesn’t indulge in a little "self abuse" at that point in life? I always loved the expression of "self abuse," which is how the priests at our parish referred to masturbation. Some abuse! But I digress. But then again, observations told me that this too was an acne myth. For if my acne was linked to my masturbation, was I to conclude that my male friends who had no acne at all did not masturbate? I knew had a friend who talked about "self abuse" all the time. Yet he didn't have any zits. If they were right about the "self abuse"-acne connection, my friend would have been a five-foot walking boil. So, that was another acne myth busted.

Another myth that I did believe, and which sounded genuine and even scientific at that time, related to the assumption that acne was a result of dirt accumulation on the pores of my face. I never stopped to consider that if that was the case, why wasn’t the skin on my arms and legs, which were more in contact with dirt and grime than any other part of my body, riddled with acne? In any case, I spent several months assiduously searching for the best acne treatment. I washed my face with every type of soap or acne lotion I could find. No luck.I was still the Acne King!

Finally I threw In The Towel

Finally, I threw in the towel for the last time. I just bought blemish cream to cover everything up. It was hard to look natural with all that stuff on my face, especially when I was in the direct sunlight, like at our high school football games. So finally I just resorted to a fatalistic attitude and concluded that the more I stressed out about how to clear my acne, the more it would continue to remain. It was at that point that I gave up bothering about my acne filled face. And guess what? A couple of years later, as I slowly grew out of my adolescence, the acne disappeared on its own! Although there are still a few tell-tale scars of my Acne King days, my face is clear and radiant today!

Those wonderful teenage years! Maybe it was the stress.

There are hundreds of thousands of individuals within the United States and elsewhere who have seemed to embrace the idea and practice of acupuncture as something that is real and can be used to treat a wide variety of issues.

On the other hand there are hundreds of thousands of other people who are on the exact opposite side of the fence. Some people believe the idea of acupuncture is a myth, while others know to the core of their being that acupuncture therapy is real, not imagined. Whatever the case in your belief system, though, chances are that you have at least heard of the acupuncture myth controversy that some people have started in the United States and throughout the world.

Why Acupuncture is Considered a Myth

Many people consider acupuncture to be a myth because there are already so many myths in the Chinese culture that have not yet been debunked. In addition to that, many people logically process the thought that just because the Chinese considered the acupuncture therapy to be real thousands of years ago does not mean that the traditions were carried on and the effects were real. For many, the idea of acupuncture leads to imagery of ancient Chinese people concocting special recipes that only serve as to buffer the whole myth of acupuncture therapy. Some people say that these people simply don't know what they're talking about. Acupuncture professionals in the Chinese culture have rejected those who say that acupuncture therapy is a total myth.

Why Acupuncture is Considered Very Real

Professional and authoritative Chinese experts in Asia as well as other countries throughout the world reject the idea that the whole concept of acupuncture therapy is a myth. Their main reason for believing acupuncture is a legitimate treatment process is the fact that these acupuncture experts have actually experienced the healing properties of the process of acupuncture. There are acupuncture schools in China that teach and promote acupuncture treatments for dozens of maladies. There are acupuncture clinics and treatment centers that supposedly can cure back pain to helping you lose weight to chiropractic uses to even acupuncture massages. For these people, they are confident by the fact that they are able to heal through this very delicate process and are confused as to why anybody would doubt the whole miracle!

Where Is the Answer?

We have heard arguments for the myth side of acupuncture and we have also heard arguments for the reasoning behind believing in acupuncture, but is there any middle ground? Is it possible that there could be some myths associated with the medicine techniques, but most of the acupuncture therapy is actually a real thing? On the contrary, though, there can hardly be any middle ground to something or some idea that is either false or true. Many acupuncture defenders contend that their way of healing is the absolute right way and they also say that if one is to be too skeptical about the whole issue then the best thing to do would be to try it out for themselves! Indeed, personal experience is what is most important, and the issue of acupuncture certainly warrants the experience!

We plan to get to the bottom of this contentiouis issue, so we'll have more on this interesting subject in future posts! If any of you readers have any thoughts on this topic, please feel free to chime in!

Start With An Acne Diet

If you have acne, I don't have to tell you how traumatizing it can be. This affliction can be a rather stressful one if left untreated.

Our appearance, as we all know, can have such a important effect on our confidence, or lack there of. How is your skin looking these days? It's certainly no rarity to be tormented by acne, but you should never let this skin disorder get the best of you. It's time to stand up tall, and demand your life back. With all the resources at our disposal, there's no reason why we can't strive to be acne free. While proper skin care and reliable treatments are crucial in getting rid of blemishes, many people overlook the other things. It's not just about your outside. We have to consider what goes on inside us as well. This brings me to the topic of acne diets. What do you eat?

You may or may not have come across the subject of acne diets. This pertains to what you consume and how it affects your skin. I recently was sitting in the doctor's office with my wife. She was there for a sore back. I had severely chapped lips at the time and asked her if she had some lip balm in her purse. The doctor looked at me with a smirk and said, "You know, the condition of your lips actually relates to your diet." She informed me that consuming the proper nutrients and fluids on a regular basis would prevent my lips from being chapped. This puzzled me. However, these days I have adopted a more nutritious diet and refrain from using lip balm. And Guess What? I never have chapped lips anymore. It's bizarre how some things work. This concept also applies to our skin. Did you know that the food you eat excretes back through your pores? Well, substances from them do anyway. This gives whole new meaning to the phrase, you are what you eat. This is why acne diets may be important for some individuals. Foods high in fat and grease are known for causing breakouts. I'm talking about fast foods, especially.

When it comes to acne diets, foods that are great for your skin include, fruits and vegetables, organic products, non-processed items, and of course water. I highly recommend that you give acne diets a shot if pimples are giving you trouble. This should certainly better your complexion if you stick to it. For more information on acne diets, you can simply hit the Internet.

We had such a good response to the recent post on Aloe Vera Juice, I decided to provide a little more background on its many uses.

Aloe is a genus of plants belonging to the Asphodelaceae family, and is related to onions and asparagus.

Aloe plants appear naturally in Africa, although many members of the genus are popular houseplants and can be found around the world. The most famous member of the genus is Aloe Vera, known for its medicinal uses and applications.

Aloe Vera Gel

Though there are several common medical uses for Aloe Vera, the most frequent use of the plant is in the form of a topical gel. Gels made from Aloe Vera are used to treat burns and minor scrapes. Aloe Vera benefits range from soothing inflammation, pain relief, and a reduction in the likelihood of infection. Studies have also shown that regular use of an Aloe Vera gel will actually speed the healing process in minor wounds, and even severe burns. It has been used in this capacity for hundreds of years. The thick leaves from Aloe plants can be snapped open, and the moist open ends of the Aloe leaf can be rubbed onto a burn or scrape directly. This is how my wife and I used it in Jamaica for my sunburn when we vacationed in Negril several years ago.

Many Uses

In industrialized areas, the moisture form the Aloe leaves are extracted and made into the popular gel most people are familiar with. In more recent years, it has become more popular than ever and has found its way into skin lotions, cosmetic products, shampoos, lip balms, soaps and sunscreens. Some Aloe Vera benefits include a strong moisturizing capacity, and its extract contains a number of vitamins and minerals that are believed to promote healthy skin. It is a very gentle substance in itself, so one of the benefits of Aloe Vera is that it can be used in sensitive areas, such as around the eyes.

Used Internally Also

Aloe plants, including Aloe Vera, have also found medicinal uses internally. Used in this way primarily as a laxative, the juice from aloe can be dried into a dark powder composed of yellowish granules that are quite bitter to taste. Internal use of Aloe is marketed as a treatment for coughs, ulcers, muscle pain, headaches, and even cancer and HIV. The only proven Aloe Vera benefit in internal use is the relief of constipation. Additionally, even in this use, internal use of the plant has a number of side effects, can cause nausea, and should not be taken by women who may be pregnant.

There is a lot of hype and mystery surrounding the Aloe genus, especially its most popular member Aloe Vera. Clearly, many Aloe Vera benefits are proven, especially the ones involved in external use and in skin care. There is even an Aloe Vera treatment for acne. Its benefits for internal use are somewhat dubious, however.
